Arboretum close-ups

I'm still trying to figure out close-ups with the new camera, but I snapped a few at the arboretum.

Roses

Time to trim back the roses. I took some pictures before I cut them back. I didn't do much with them this year, but they still bloomed beautifully!

New Camera and artsy photo

I got a new camera - a Nikon D80 - for Christmas. I've taken lots of photos and tried out lots of different settings. I am learning all about aperture and exposure and shutter speed and all that fun stuff! Here's my cat Callie.

I love the way the sun is streaming through the branches - it looks almost like drops of water here.

If there is one good thing about the hot humid part of summer, it's the beautiful sunsets!

Mule Deer

This guy went searching for food at the next campsite when we were at the Grand Canyon. He wasn't too scared of us so we were able to snap a few photos. I never knew about the velvet on the antlers - I guess they scrape it off in the fall when they are fighting for the females. That is what is glowing from the sun in the first photo.
